After 14 years, ATC announced the SCM25a Pro MKII. It is not a big upgrade. Just a small but significant improvement.

The new ATC SCM25a MKII now uses as SH25-76S the ATC proprietary driver with dual suspension.

This is the same tweeter as the bigger SCM45a Pro, renown for its open, detailed and sweet sound.

Unlike other 25mm drivers available on the market, the dual suspension design of the SH25-76S allows for a full axial movement.

This allows for non harmonic modulation cancellation (even at high pressure levels) and enables the usage of tighter magnetic gaps.

The results are a broader high band, an unrivaled linearity and a low distortion in the whole audio band.

We finally get:

  • higher power (30W rms vs th 25W of MK1 driver)
  • high cut frequency well above 20kHz
  • broader horizontal dispersion (outstanding achievement given the already good sound staging of MK1)
  • less distortion and better sweet-spot with a better off-axis response.

Other than that the differences with the previous model are minimal.

The case is a little larger to give room for the new tweeter.

The back panel is almost the same with no modifications on both connectors and I/O placement.

Needless to say that the other speakers are the same as before.
