SOMA laboratory LYRA-8 (White Angel)

Synthesizer based on eight generators is not like a traditional subtractive synthesis VCO, it resemble generators in old electric organs.

The Lyra-8 is a performance-oriented, fully analog drone synthesizer with very organic sound. The instrument features eight oscillators, which can be used separately or stacked to FM voices. For further sound design, there are the Hyper LFO, a superbly sounding Mod Delay and a beefy distortion circuit. Thanks to touch surfaces, the Lyra-8 can be played expressively. – A unique, very inspiring musical instrument.

I purchased the Soma Laboratories Lyra-8 as I wanted something a little different in my studio, a synthesizer for experimentation to primarily create soundscapes. The Lyra-8 is absolutely beautiful and exceptionally well made, it feels much more expensive than it actually is, and the design, layout and controls feel very intuitive to me. When playing you feel a real connection to the instrument, it feels very intimate and always feels like a very special experience. I personally think it is an instrument for the more experienced electronic musician, and if you want to utilise it fully, you will need a good working knowledge of synthesizers. If you want presets, quantization or predictable outcomes perhaps look elsewhere. But if you like to experiment, go on sonic explorations and really be hands on with your creativity, then there is simply nothing else like the beautiful Lyra-8.
