The structure of wavestate SE
wavestate SE is a 4-part multitimbral synth (called Layer) that can also be managed via separate MIDI channels, assignable to different keyboard extensions in Split and/or Layer. Each Layer has an independent processing chain, with dedicated multimode filter, envelopes, modulations, effects and arpeggiator. wavestate SE is based on the advanced WaveSequencing 2.0 synthesis system, characterized by evolutionary and atmospheric sounds, capable of stimulating and satisfying the timbral needs of new generations of musicians, producers and composers. Thanks to the power offered by this technology to separately separate, process and modulate parameters such as tempo speed, sample sequence and frequency (Pitch), this advanced synthesizer can generate cinematic, natural and remarkably innovative timbres. Korg Wavestate SE is more than a nostalgic reissue of the original Wavestation, it is a completely new design inspired by sound sources such as modular synths, Groove boxes and algorithmic generators.
Wave Sequencing 2.0
Wave sequencing was originally introduced by KORG in the legendary original Wavestation, a synthesis system that allowed precisely the sequential repetition of a definable series of samples, producing continuously moving, evolving sounds of great suggestion and interest. The new technology 2.0 overcomes some of the limitations of the technology of the time such as, for example, the repetitiveness of wavesequences, this in fact can separate parameters such as tempo speed, the sequence of Samples, and their pitch (pitch) so that they can be treated independently. Each of these elements is developed temporally through its respective "Lane," represented on the display as an editing track with parameters such as: the number of steps, the start, end and Loop points. Each time a sequence is played, the various "Lanes" combine to generate the output sound. For example, a sample can be associated with different duration, pitch, shape, gate and step values each time it is played. The start, end, and loop points of each Lane can be modulated by sources such as velocity, LFOs, envelopes, Mod potentiometers, or other controls. Each note of a chord can be played differently! On the Lanes it is also possible at each playback to randomize the order of the Steps, with the ability to intervene in real time on their Range. And finally, each step can be randomly excluded from playback by intervening with values from 0 to 100% on the "probability" parameter. The result is a natural, evolving sound that responds to your controls. Finally, the instrument's four arpeggiators can interact with the Wave Sequences further expanding the timbral possibilities of this digital synthesizer.
wavestate SE expression and articulation.
Wavestate SE has numerous physical controls an invitation to true timbral exploration. All filters, envelopes, LFOs and effects are at your fingertips and editable from the well-prepared controls on the panel. 8 "Mod" potentiometers are preassigned to get the best out of the selected sound, but you can of course configure them as needed to control the parameters you need. All movements on the potentiometers even during Live performances can be stored and saved as new sounds. Completing the array of controls are the Pitch Bend and Modulation wheels to which the Vector Joystick is added, to ensure multidimensional expression at every moment of your performance. For those who want to go even deeper all physical controls, as well as a good part of the parameters that can be displayed on the screen are modulatable, you can even modulate the settings of each Step of the Wave Sequence. Mod Processors allow you to vary the modulation sources by acting on quantization, intensity, curve, and many other parameters.
Inspiration via Timbral Randomization.
For those interested in easy timbre research or getting quick inspiration from Wavestate SE, by simply pressing a button on the front panel marked with the "dice" icon, new timbres can be generated immediately using intelligent randomization algorithms. In this way you can generate a finished sound or just a part of it, such as filter, Sample Lane, or effects. The results of this automatic processing can be used directly or as a starting point for further processing.
Wavestate SE's DSP effects.
Wavestate SE has effects that enable studio-quality sounds. Each Layer has 3 dedicated effect slots to which is added Perfomance with a Master Reverb and parametric Eq. You can call up the effects you want from an extensive list that includes more traditional processors such as: compressors, equalizers, phasers, stereo delays, or those with more distinctive character such as:Wave Shaper, Talking Modulator, Reverse Delay, Multiband Mod Delay, Overb (derived from the KRONOS and NAUTILUS workstations), VOX amp simulators, VOX wah, multiple head tape echo, and a collection of the best-known and most widely used guitar pedals.
Choose your favorite filter with wavestate SE
wavestate SE has a remarkably high-performance and versatile multi-mode filter that allows you, for example, to process your sound by adding character to it by emulating the Lowpass and Highpass filters of the iconic Vintage KORG MS-20 monophonic synth, or by using the characteristic soft and warm lowpass modeled from that of the PolySix another historic KORG instrument. Other Lowpass, Highpass, Bandpass and Notch resonant 2- and 4-pole filter modes are also available; combined with the unique KORG Multi Filter that allows simultaneous and modulable interaction between different filter types.
Wide Wavetable 96 Voices Stereo Polyphony
The sample library of KORG wavestate SE consists of several Gigabytes of samples an unimaginable amount compared to that of the original Wavestation. This library feeds the Wave Sequences, in which are banks of samples produced by Plugin Guru, a new collection of samples specially made by Korg itself, and samples extracted directly from the KRONOS and NAUTILUS libraries. In keeping with Korg wavestate SE tradition, it includes all the samples from the original Wavestation, including optional samples and a very large collection of Wave Sequence. This material forms the foundation upon which the entire sound experience of this instrument capable of delivering up to 64 voices of Stereo polyphony with proprietary developed aliasing-free sample playback technology from KORG.
4GB of User Samples
Up to 4GB of our favorite Samples can be imported on Korg wavestate SE using the free App for Mac and Windows: Sample Builder; many third-party libraries are also available; new samples are loaded via USB and can be used in Wave Sequences or as Multisamples just like the factory ones.
wavestate SE a synth multiplied 4
wavestate SE allows you to achieve particularly rich and complex sounds by layering up to 4 different Programs within a Performance; you can also control them individually on 4 different MIDI channels. Each of the 4 Layers has an independent processing chain with: filter, envelopes, LFOs, effects and an arpeggiator. The envelope and vector joystick can mix the Programs (the individual voices) of the 4 Layers and also modulate additional parameters.
Set Lists and seamless transition between sounds
Set Lists allow you to organize the succession of Performances on the wavestate SE state according to your needs, to access them immediately during Live or rehearsals. Smooth Sound Transition technology enables natural and seamless transitions, including effects, between sound resources for smooth performances without annoying blackouts.
wavestate SE integration in every setup
wavestate SE has advanced and professional connections such as balanced stereo outputs that allow connection to any recording or listening system; stereo headphone output for playing or programming without external interference. The MIDI (DIN) ports ensure integration into traditional MIDI set-ups, while the Class-Compliant USB "B" port in turn transmits and receives MIDI data allowing connection to Windows /Mac computers and ensuring interfacing with the Librarian Software downloadable free of charge from the KORG website.
The wavestate SE Editor/Librarian.
This software acts as a second remote front panel of wavestate SE, returning immediate feedback of any changes made to parameters and their values. You can copy and paste sounds, envelopes, LFOs, filter set ups and go deep into effect parameters to create your own presets.
Designed in the California headquarters of KORG R&D.
KORG's R&D department based in California created the original Wavestation, participated in the development of OASYS and Kronos, and developed core technologies used in numerous KORG instruments. wavestate reflects their aesthetic concept, generates exceptional sounds, and offers great versatility flexibility due to the modern technology used. Three of the sound designers from the original Wavestation, John Bowen, John "Skippy" Lehmkuhl (Plugin Guru) and Peter "Ski" Schwartz joined with Belgian artist Airwave and KORG's renowned "voicing team" to bring to life the incredible sound library of wavestate SE.
Music Software Bundled with WAVESTATE SE
