Tierra Audio New Twenties: the microphone with vintage sound and retro design

Published on 08/01/2025

In our new video review we will discuss the Tierra Audio Twenties condenser microphone. A microphone with an attractive and retro design, where already from the name we can guess the reference to the 1920s of the last century.

Usually I don't, but on this occasion I would also like to describe the wooden box where the microphone is housed, because it is an integral part of the Tierra Audio concept. It has an immediate magnetic opening, just push on one side and the top wooden panel opens.

Inside, in addition to the microphone, we find the magnetic pop filter, which follows the same design as the microphone and so to the eye it almost does not look like a foreign body but one with the microphone itself.

We also find a plexiglass plate and a wooden plate that are exactly the same on which custom laser engravings can be ordered , perhaps with your studio logo, we have the microphone under test so they are rough without any engraving.

Technical characteristics of the Tierra Audio New Twenties.

The microphone is very compact and weighs 485 gr. without anti-pop, while with filter equipped it weighs 520 gr.

It is hand assembled in Madrid, while the "Electrec" capsule is of American origin with a cardioid type polar figure.

Inside, in the small space that the New Twenties occupies, we find transistors of the highest quality, responsible for signal amplification with very low noise floor

The key feature of the New Twenties is the Lundahl transformer which gives a soft note to your recordings, but without covering the clarity of the transients.

The sound we get is definitely very soft on the low and mid frequencies, very warm thanks to the Lundahl transformer, which gives more harmonic distortion concentrated a lot on the low and mid frequencies and going down towards the high frequencies. In this way we get a retro sound, very soft, but without distorting the canons of more modern crystalline recordings.
